Description
The security you need, the appearance you want.
The 1878 33 has a spacious and modular interior and is equipped to securely store 33 long guns, with room to spare for your other valuables.
Convenience
Convenience means so much more than just “easy to access”. 1878 33 safes are designed to give you a modular interior than any competitor safe on the market, which translates into custom fit and a better value for you. Likewise, the convenience features included in our safes go beyond protecting your guns from fire and theft, but protect your guns from dings, dents and scratches due to poor storage design.
- AXIS Adjustable Shelving – the most modular safe interior shelving available for gun safes, you can swap standard shelves for long gun barrel racks, jewelry drawers, document storage, etc. We are continuing to develop additional shelf options to make the AXIS interior even more versatile.
- DPX Storage System – makes use of the back of the safe door with a Quick Access Barrel Rack and Scope saver, allowing you to store a significant number of long guns, pistols, and other accessories.
Security:
Browning 1878 safes feature high end security characteristics designed to prevent unauthorized entry. No safe is impenetrable, but a good safe will delay and frustrate even the most skilled of safe crackers as they spend hour after hour attempting to break through the “weak points” of a 1878 series safe. Designed to thwart cutting, drilling, prying and other attacks, Browning safes will break bits, dull saws, and hold fast against pry bars, robbing thieves of the limited time they have to get at your valuables. Some of these anti-theft characteristics:
- 11-Gauge steel body
- 1″ Formed Door with inner plate
- Force Deflector Locking System
- Hardened steel pin lock protection
- 1 1/4″ diameter chromed locking bolts on three sides of the door (top and sides)

THERMABLOCK FIRE PROTECTION.
When heat builds and flames roar, ThermaBlock ensures that your valuables are well protected. Exclusive to Browning ProSteel safes, ThermaBlock features thicker sheets of fire insulation arranged in an interlocking design that minimizes gaps that would allow the internal temperature in the safe to rise during a fire.
With ThermaBlock’s advantages, we begin fire-testing safes where the other brands’ testing ends. The chart shows that a Browning ProSteel safe with ThermaBlock and external hinges offers fire protection as much as three times better than a safe with internal hinges and gaps in fire protection that leave your valuables unprotected.
FIRE PROTECTION LIKE NO OTHER.
We understand that fire protection is more than just adding fire insulation to a safe. Other aspects of safe construction play crucial roles in the total fire protection package. Here, the little details add up to make or break the true fire protection a safe offers.
The thickness of the steel used in the body is vital. Heavier gauge steel flexes less when heated, limiting distortion that lets heat in through gaps in broken welds and around the door frame. Speaking of welds, we continuously weld — not spot weld like some of the competition — every seam for added resistance to heat-related flex. Even the door hinge design matters. All of these little touches add up to big gains in fire and heat resistance and go a long way towards protecting your most valuable possessions.
Browning safes boast the best fire protection of any safe on the market, not just living up to their ratings, but actually keeping the interior temperatures down to a level that will prevent significant damage to the safe’s contents. 1878 safes are rated to withstand a 1680°F fire for at least 90 minutes.
